Race to Guatemala
Social distancing may have limited travel, but that won't stop us from staying active and having fun! We're excited to announce our very first virtual Race to Guatemala - beginning July 4th on our Independence Day, and ending on Guatemalan Independence Day, September 15th.
This event is NOT just for runners! We want to encourage all types of movement, so anything from walking, biking, dancing or kayaking can contribute to your team's miles! Once you register, we will send you a conversion sheet with all the necessary info. Find more details about the race and our teams below.
We have a long way to travel , which is why this race is not just one day. We are asking each team to record the miles they move each week and attempt to collectively move the 3,700 miles from Seattle to our villages in El Estor. Sign up as a participant, or sponsor a team in their efforts!
Each team is working to fundraise for a specific GVH program: click on each team to see what program they are fundraising for!
We voice our solidarity with the ongoing struggles of all people of color for justice and equity as we all are viewing firsthand the horrors of the ongoing institutionalized racism in our country - from police openly murdering Black men to the shooting of a pregnant Black woman peacefully protesting this injustice. It is this same systematic oppression following the genocide of the indigenous Mayan villagers of Guatemala which leads to the largest inequities in access to access to healthcare, education and the ability to earn a living wage in any country in the world - it is time for CHANGE TODAY!
