Nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life is vital for brain development and prevention of stuntingGVH works to assure appropriate development for babies to promote the ability to learn and lead a  life with good health.

We work to improve children's health by: 

  • Assessing the growth status of children starting at the age of 6 months.

  • For children 0-2, providing nutritional supplements along with breastfeeding to ensure adequate nutrition for healthy development.

  • For children under 5, providing preventive care such as fluoride and micronutrients.

We work to improve mothers' health by:

  • Providing  women of childbearing age with micronutrients/prenatal vitamins to prevent anemia and birth defects.

  • Equipping midwives with ongoing training and internationally-recognized materials for prenatal and postnatal care.

  • Providing family planning education and birth control.

Our Mission

To improve individual and village health in rural Guatemala through education, empowerment of local leaders,
and development of local health providers.
